When asked, Clinton affirmed that, as she told the labor unions, she can say to the GLBT audience: “I’m your girl.”
Hooray for putting yourself on our side.
But, um, Hillary? As a sister Wellesley woman, I’m a little distressed to hear you refer to yourself as a “girl.” From our first year, “woman” was drilled into us.
Wellesley alums everywhere are clicking their tongues.

I am sick of hearing about the whole civil union thing. It is utter nonsense. It is not the same, perhaps it does come down to a simple fact of semantics, but when you label some thing one way for one group of people and you label it a different way for another, they don't ever really get around to being the same. Maybe it will end up needing another Brown vs Board of Education to end this round of seperate and unequal bologne.
Clinton's use of the word "girl" is her way of trying to play to middle America and also trying to dumb herself down because she is seen as a strong woman and using the word "girl" to describe herself makes her seem less imposing. Quit it. Just call yourself a woman or a lady if you want to be more proper. None of the male candidates are going around calling themselves little boys! Lose the jacket though - it's not flattering.
I loved Alec Mapa's post-forum commentary. Governor Richards really was an Eeyore tonight. He was not prepared and should have done some research before going on are - especially about his mishap on the radio show.
Not to mention she's got the experience in other areas, specifically foreign affairs, which we need badly right now.
While I appreciate the combination of idealism and cynicism in the comments of those who want a candidate with purer liberal credentials (a la Ralph Nader in 2000), let's face it: Sen. Clinton is a pragmatist. Her private positions will always outstrip her public ones. She will nonetheless accomplish more than those who stick their necks out. I want a Democrat in the White House more than I want ideological purity and Sen. Clinton has the right combination of smarts, connections, coalition building ability, knowledge and experience to do the job once there.
Yes. I think Hillary Clinton has forgotten what it's like for "women" in the working world. This is all very disappointing.
1) 6 of the 8 Democratic presidential candidates even attended this forum, and;
2) They will speak out concerning gay rights and civil unions and equality.
This is the first Presidential election in the United States history that a major candidate will speak proudly for gay rights. Bill Clinton couldn't do it, and Al Gore and John Kerry simply didn't do it. The race is going to be Clinton, Obama, and Edwards, and truly - Clinton is leading by very much - and either way, they support civil unions and our rights and speak for us. No candidate has ever done that. Can't we be proud of that? I think so.
As highly unlikely as it is for Kucinich or Gravelle to get the dem nomination, I must admit their honesty was quite refreshing.
A girl going after the right wing?? Well, maybe that "is" what she means. I'm sure they are trembling in their boots.
Sounds like the "right wing" (aka Rupert Murdoch) wins again.
Thanks, Hillary. "You are a heckuva gal."
She's got what it takes to move us forward and that's all that matters. Strength, passion, compassion, okay her stylist has got to do something about her jackets but she is all that!
Love her.
Uh, how many managed to overlook the intentional irony in that phrase?
No one thinks Hillary is a female under the age of majority--including and especially Hillary.
I'm a big ol Lezbian Feminist (from decades and decades ago)--and there are moments when I use the term, as do a number of my Sistahs.
She is the least gay friendly candidate.
i really, really hope that was pity applause.
Clinton is to Bush as Pepsi is to Coke.
now, about that set. BAD. we need a stadium full of people!
