Mitt Romney Trying To Spoil Our Happiness

010307romney.jpg

A court in Iowa ruled yesterday that because the state guarantees equal protection, gay marriage is A-OK.

It still needs to go to the Iowa Supreme Court, but this is a big victory. Couples are already marrying.

Happy day. Let’s all celebrate!

Mitt Romney, though, is trying to stomp all over us. Mitt Romney can’t let this go by like the rest of the candidates. No, Mitt Romney needs to say something. Even though Mitt Romney is the LAST person who should say anything, because he–of all people–knows first hand, as a governor of Massachusetts, that gay marriage there did absolutely nothing to harm heterosexual marriage.

What did Mitt Romney say?

Here:

“The ruling is Iowa today is another example of an activist court and unelected judges trying to define marriage and disregard the will of the people as expressed through Iowa’s Defense of Marriage Act.  This once again highlights the need for a Federal Marriage Amendment to protect the traditional definition of marriage as between one man and one woman.”

I’m tired of this “activist judges” trope. What about the “activist judges” that declared George W. president against the clear wishes of the people (the popular vote was for Gore) in 2000? What about the “activist judge” in California who ruled in 2005 that marriage was limited to hererosexuals?

Didn’t hear you complaining about “activist judges” then, Mitt.

  1. Richard,

We are defending marriage to keep something of value in this country. Marriage is a value, not a political football. Turning marriage into a gay agenda lessens the importance of marriage because the left is using homosexuals to help them destroy what remains of a once beautiful culture. Wake-up!

    Jennifer,

Activist judges did not put Bush into office even though he lost the popular vote. You need to read your Constitution that those of the left have tried to destroy. If you had read it you would know that the popular vote has no Constitutional foundation. The only thing that matters is the electoral college! Good try on the activist judges crap!

  2. Are you people crazy thinking Mitt is okay in what he says. Sure he has the right to freedom of speech but he has done nothing for Massachusetts. He said he’s against same sex marriage but believes we should have equal rights with civil unions but without federal rights – how is that equal? The next minute he has a memory laps on these issues. Let’s not even start on the big dig mess HE helped create and refuses to take any responsibility.

Sure he has the right to say what he feels but we have just as much of a right to marry and live happy lives. You go Jennifer!!
  3. Honestly Jennifer "stomped all over us"? We gays are NOT all of your us which you conveniently exploit at every turn. You are blinded by selfishness and ignorance. I am embarassed for you and your amateur sensationalizing.
  4. He says it like it's a bad thing. If it weren't for "activist judges", or judges that do their job and interpret the constitution, inter-racial couples wouldn't have the right to marry either. So he should be preaching that those laws should be turned back as well.
  5. You sound like a child. Please, grow up and be thankful for the freedom to express yourself, like Mitt did.
  6. That's what freedom of speech is all about. There are people who supported him and there are people who won't. He's got the hardest road to the White House mainly because of his religion. You have a business to protest and he's got the right to say whatever he wants. John Muller has a business to complain, but at the same time he has no business to say Romney has no business. Grow up already.
  7. Mitt Romney should mind his own business, and vote for equality for all Americans. Plus we see time after time these republicans who promote "family values" seem to be the biggest hypocrites.

Perhaps Romney has some dirt hidden as well?
  8. You know, not even one of all the people who speak out defending marriage have ever said what they're defending marriage either for or from. I wish these people would be clear about their position. And why should we not have the full and equal protection under the law so freely given to our heterosexual counterparts?
