So yesterday I’m at work, trolling the net instead of doing what my bosses pay me to do, when I read that Pat Robertson is standing behind Rudy Giuliani, I laughed so loudly my boss asked me what the problem was.

While the Rev. Robertson is kooky (he once opined that same sex sodomy and abortion were the reasons why the country was attacked on September 11), he’s a biggie in the Christian conservative world. His endorsement of “America’s Mayor” is a big plus for Giuliani because it shows that even despite his anti-gun, pro-gay, and choice past Rudy has done an excellent job of proving to some conservatives that if elected he’ll do the right thing.

For some this is an endorsement of like minds. Gray is not a color that exists in either world of Giuliani or Robertson. When Rudy was New York’s mayor anyone who questioned his policies was the enemy; Robertson has convinced himself he is the last good man in a country mired in sin and sloth. Also both tend to discuss the war on terror in terms that do not allow for subtlety. And nuance is required if there is any chance of winning against people who in their hearts of hearts are against modernity.
