Don’t Forget Biden and Richardson

Joe Biden and Bill Richardson have actual foreign policy experience.

When it comes to the crisis in Pakistan, The Chicago Tribune reminds us that we have a couple Democrats on the slate who have real foreign policy experience: Joe Biden and Bill Richardson.

Both Biden and Richardson are so far down in most polls that reporters - and hence bloggers, who rely on reporters to give us news to riff on - tend to ignore them.

But we shouldn’t. Says the Tribune:

Among other Democratic contenders, Biden has frequently chastised his rivals for paying too much attention to a potential nuclear program in Iran than to the problems of a destabilized Pakistan, which has nuclear weapons. He noted that in recent months he requested Musharraf provide “effective security” for Bhutto and others.

Richardson, a former ambassador to the United Nations and a frequent critic of Musharraf’s efforts to combat terrorism, said the Pakistani president “has failed and his attempts to cling to power are destabilizing his country. He must go.”

As a nation of immigrants, we should care more about foreign policy than we do. And we need to pay closer attention to those leaders of ours who actually have experience with what they’re talking about.

  1. Logo has begun to disgust me!! I just watched the top ten stories of 2007 and I turned it off. The number 4 piece was about the presidential forum. You never even MENTIONED Dennis Kucinich!! You are outrageuos. He is the only candidate who came out CLEARLY in favor if gay marriage. In fact, he said publicly AT YOUR OWN FORUM that he had no reservations about any issue on the HRC questionaire. You should be ashamed of yourselves for this kind of draconian censorship. Look on the page above, the bold type for the so called "front runners" who couldn't even bring themselves to support a basic human right. You make me sick!
  2. No kidding.
